Give every ingredient a role

A balanced first blend only needs two or three ingredients. Think of each one as a member of your party: a dependable base, a supporting body and, when the cup needs it, a memorable accent.

60–80%Base

The foundation of your brew

Choose the main tea or caffeine-free ingredient that sets the body, colour and overall direction of the cup.

Black tea, green tea, rooibos or a gentle herbal base
15–30%Body

Depth and character

Add one supporting ingredient that rounds out the base, reinforces it or creates a deliberate contrast.

A second tea, fruit, mellow herb or warm spice
5–15%Accent

Your flavour special effect

Finish with a distinctive aroma, sparkle or lingering note. Accents should be noticed without taking over.

Build your first potion formula

Every recipe needs a starting stat block. A 100g test batch keeps the maths simple: equip a 70/20/10 loadout, brew it, then let your tasting notes decide where to spend the next 10g.

Quest 2 · Brew your first batch

Test one version at a time

  1. 01

    Write down the mission

    Name the cup you want—bright and refreshing, warm and spiced, soft and floral—then record what each ingredient should do.

  2. 02

    Brew consistently

    Use the same leaf weight, water, temperature and steep time for every test so you are comparing the recipe itself.

  3. 03

    Taste warm and cool

    Notice the aroma first, then body, sweetness, brightness and finish. Some flavours become clearer as the cup cools.

  4. 04

    Change one stat

    Move one ingredient by a single 10g step, brew again and keep the version that brings the cup closer to your mission.

Diagnose the cup before you add more

The cup tastes thin

Increase the base or body by one 10g step.

One flavour takes over

Reduce that ingredient before adding anything new.

The aroma disappears

Raise the accent slightly, or try a gentler steep.

It tastes busy or muddled

Return to two or three ingredients and give each one a job.

The golden rule: reduce the loudest ingredient before recruiting another one. A clear, intentional cup beats a crowded inventory.
